History

Hoshin Jutsu is a genuine Eclectic Style of Martial Art created in Australia. In 1994 Instructors Geoff and Rose Smith began their first classes for young disadvantaged people. Originally their syllabus was designed for women and teenagers, as the Instructors were teaching only in women's refuges, helping people to gain respect for themselves after overcoming genuine adversities and hardships in their lives. Other people started to ask if they could attend class as well, and the Instructors began to search for a way to run "normal" classes.

For a brief period from 1997 - 1998 Hoshin in Australia ran under the format of Dr Morris and "Hoshin Roshi Ryu Jutai Jutsu" but in 1999 the school returned to its own separate syllabus and grading system and became Hoshin Jutsu Australia-Pacific. "Hoshin" means "Heart of the Ocean" and it is with this in mind that our style developed its syllabus to cover not just the body, but the mind and spirit as well. Hoshin Jutsu is a member of the Martial Arts Industry Association, the peak representative body for Non-sportive Martial Arts in Australia.

We have many programs including leadership courses for young people wishing to eventually become instructors.

Hoshin Jutsu Australia - Pacific still retains its commitment to working with youth at risk, disadvantaged young people and families. It also runs an extensive Bursary program through its normal martial arts programs. The school carries out all of its own fund raising, with the support of Hoshin students and their families & friends.

Due to its international ties, Hoshin Jutsu Australia is sister school to:

  • The Shin Jin Kan Aikijujutsu Dojo, under Soke Robert "Robin" Martin
  • The Australian Shaolin Kempo Academy, under Sifu Garry Spencer
  • The Goshin Ju-jutsu School under Sensei Gary Davis
  • The Ninjutsu Academy (Victoria, Canada.) under Sensei Robert Pfutzenruter
  • The Shotokan Karate School of Sensei Leon Goltsman
